Duo Eatery in Birkenhead is known for its warm atmosphere and inviting design, but the cafe acoustics weren’t quite matching the experience. Hard surfaces and a lively dining environment were creating excess reverberation, making conversations less comfortable during busy periods. The owners wanted to enhance the ambience without compromising the carefully crafted interior.
Goals
- Reduce unwanted echo and improve overall sound clarity

Solution
To improve the cafe’s soundproofing, we specified and installed 12 custom Autex Opera Mirage™ acoustic ceiling panels, each measuring 750 mm by 2400 mm. These were fitted precisely between the existing timber detailing, allowing the panels to blend naturally with the interior design.
The Autex Mirage™ panels feature delicate micro patterns that have a striking visual impact when viewed at scale, creating a sense of movement and depth to transform spaces into a tactile landscape. Beyond their visual appeal, they also provide excellent acoustic performance.
By integrating these panels into the existing architecture, we were able to significantly reduce reverberation and elevate the overall acoustic comfort without altering the look and feel that customers love.
Duo now benefits from a calmer, more enjoyable dining environment, with improved speech clarity and a polished aesthetic that feels entirely cohesive.
